In the first installment of the “The Gift” series, Pastor Dwayne looks at how to be a wise man in Daniel chapter 5. He uses the passage to deal with several issues including to fear the Lord.

Gifts, Part 01

Daniel 5:11 – There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the time of your father he was found to have insight and intelligence and wisdom like that of the gods. King Nebuchadnezzar your father–your father the king, I say– appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers and diviners.

Daniel 5:12 – This man Daniel, whom the king called Belteshazzar, was found to have a keen mind and knowledge and understanding, and also the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles and solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.”

Numbers 24:17 – “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the sons of Sheth.

Daniel 9:25 – “Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble.

 Be a seeker.

Matthew 2:1-2a – After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?

Luke 11:9-10 – “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

 Be a risk-taker.
Matthew 2:2b – We saw his star in the east and have come to

worship him.”

James 2:19 – You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that-and shudder.

Hebrews 11:6 – And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

 Fear the Lord.
Matthew 2:3 – When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and

all Jerusalem with him.

Matthew 2:4-5 – When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born. 5″In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied…

Luke 12:4-5 – “I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. 5But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.

Psalm 31:19 – How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you.
