Sunday March 23, 2014 – In building walls to help you in your relationship with Christ, it is important to remember that walls provide protection from the enemy and help to create community, but walls without Godly leadership can create a greater bondage to the enemy.

You remain faithful to the Lord. God has rewards for you…your faithfulness trumps results in God’s eyes. – Pastor Dwayne Terry

How To Use Walls Properly

A Practical Guide to Building, Part 11

What Walls Provide
Nehemiah 12:43 – the sound of rejoicing in Jerusalem could be heard far

away.

 Walls help protect you from your spiritual enemy. Ephesians 4:27 (NKJV) – nor give place to the devil.

  •   Walls help create community.
    The Danger of Walls
  •   Walls do not ensure promises will be kept.

o The Separation Promise. (Nehemiah 13:23-28) o The Support Promise. (Nehemiah 13:11)
o The Sabbath Promise. (Nehemiah 13:15-22)

  •   Walls without godly leadership produce greater bondage to the enemy. (Nehemiah 13:4-9)
  •   Walls plus religion equal a religious spirit.1 Corinthians 5:12-13 – What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you.”

Two Final Lessons from Nehemiah

 Character trumps production.

Nehemiah 13:8-9 – “I was greatly displeased and threw all Tobiah’s household goods out of the room. I gave orders to purify the rooms, and then I put back into them the equipment of the house of God, with the grain offerings and the incense.”

Nehemiah 13:25 – I rebuked them and called curses down on them. I beat some of the men and pulled out their hair. I made them take an oath in God’s name…

1 Peter 5:5 – In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders.

Hebrews 13:17 – Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.

 Faithfulness trumps results.

Nehemiah 13:14, 22, 31 – Remember me for this, my God, and do not blot out what I have so faithfully done for the house of my God and its services. … 22 … Remember me for this also, my God, and show mercy to me according to your great love. … 31… Remember me with favor, my God.

Matthew 24:13 – but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. Matthew 25:21 – “Well done, good and faithful servant”
