Sunday June 1st, 2014 – Since we as Christians have so much knowledge about the gospel, we are often unsure how to share it with others. We assume people know what we are talking about or we fear what we do not know. This curse of knowledge can get in the way of simply obeying Jesus’ command to go and share the gospel.

You have so much to offer. Don’t keep it to yourself… share the gospel. Let’s live our lives in a missional way. – Dwayne Terry

The Curse of Knowledge

Building Community, Part 01
Proverbs 24:5 (ESV) – A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might,

Genesis 1:28-30 – God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” 29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground–everything that has the breath of life in it–I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.

Genesis 3:16-19 – To the woman he said, “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” 17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. 18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. 19 By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.”

  • You know things you assume others know as well.
  • You fear what you don’t know.Luke 12:11-12 – “When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”

    What You Must Know

• It is your responsibility to share the gospel.
Matthew 28:19-20 – Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy

Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Luke 9:26 – Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

Matthew 10:32-33 – “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.

Discussion starters:

Did you grow up in church?
What do you believe about God?
Do you believe there is evil in the world?

Are there any issues in your life that you can’t overcome on your own? What do you think about sin?
Do you believe you must have a relationship with Jesus to get to God?

• Jesus is the answer to the root cause of all sin and evil in the world and in an individual’s life. John 14:6 – Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

• Your personal testimony.
Luke 8:39 – “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done

for him.

Revelation 12:11 – They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
