In the fourth installment of the “ReThink Everything” series, Pastors Dwayne and Tony look at how we all come from one man in Acts chapter 17. They use the passage to deal with several issues including how the power of the cross destroys all barriers.
Rethink Everything, Part 04
It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows. – Epictetus
Proverbs 9:9 – 9Instruct a wise man & he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man & he will add to his learning.
Race: a group of persons related by common descent or heredity. Acts 17:26 – From one man he made every nation of men…
Ethnicity: Relating to the classification of mankind into groups, especially on the basis of racial characteristic.
Culture: The total range of activities and ideas of a group of people with shared traditions, which are transmitted and reinforced by members of the group.
God Has A Culture For Christians
Revelation 5:9-10 – And they sang a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.”
We are all Jews if we are in Christ.
Romans 2:28-29 – A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. 29No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the
heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise is not from men, but from God.
Galatians 3:28-29 – 28There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Ministry should be across ethnic lines.
Acts 1:8 – But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
The power of the cross destroys all barriers.
Ephesians 2:11, 12-14 – Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth… 12remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. 13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ. 14For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,
