In the second installment of the “Living the American Dream” series, Pastor Dwayne looks at Paul’s teaching that to live like Jesus is to serve in Hebrews chapter 12. He uses the passage to deal with several issues including to pray and ask God where he wants you NOW.
Jesus Came As A Servant
American Dream, Part 02
Hebrews 12:2 – Let us fix our eyes on Jesus… To live like Jesus is to serve.
Mark 10:45 – For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Psalm 2:11 – Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling.
Acts 17:25 – And he [God] is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.
Isaiah 64:4 – Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.
I’ve Got That Burned Out Feeling
- You are being called to a different area of service.
- You are trying to do it all.
- Your motivation for service no longer comes from God.
- You see serving God as something of our own choosing.Eph 3:20 – “Now to him who is able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than anything we could ask, think, or even imagine, according to his power that is at work in his church.”
But Serving Is So Hard!
Your spiritual enemy doesn’t want you to know success in service.
Ephesians 6:12 – For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
People don’t always want the help.
Matthew 15:24 – He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep
Mark 15:13 – “Crucify him!” they shouted.
Obstacles to serving can create a new path of service.
Mark 10:27 – Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”
Pray and ask God where He wants you now. Witness through serving.
