1 Samuel 16:7But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Luke 6:45…For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

Myths Created From Biblical Misinterpretations

  • Certain color groups came from the curse Noah put on his son.

Genesis 9:25 ESV he said, “Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be to his brothers.”

  • God does not want colors to mix.

Deuteronomy 7:3-4 ESVYou shall not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons, 4 for they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods. Then the anger of the LORD would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.

Numbers 12:1 ESV Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married, for he had married a Cushite woman.

Numbers 12:10 ESVWhen the cloud removed from over the tent, behold, Miriam was leprous, like snow. And Aaron turned toward Miriam, and behold, she was leprous.

Numbers 25:1, 3-4 – While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women 3 So Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor. And the LORD’s anger burned against them. 4 The LORD said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of these people, kill them and expose them in broad daylight before the LORD, so that the LORD’s fierce anger may turn away from Israel.”

  • Jesus was white or black.

The Truth From Scripture

  • There is only one race: the human race.

Acts 17:26 ESVAnd he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place,

ethnos [eth-nos] – nation, group living together, ethnicity

  • There is only one Christian ethnic

Romans 2:28-29 A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. 29No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise is not from men, but from God.

Galatians 3:28-29 28There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

  • There is only one set of values that matter: Christian values.

2 Timothy 3:16All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness

The Way Forward

  • Take joy in the culture of your church.
  • Be a uniter, not a divider.

2 Corinthians 5:18-20 ESV – All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

  • Put others first.

Philippians 2:3-4 ESV Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Don’t ignore color, just don’t let it be what defines you.
