In the fourth installment of the “The Seven Last Sayings of Christ” series, Pastor Dwayne looks at the rejection of Jesus in Matthew chapter 27. He uses the passage to deal with several issues including that Jesus has healed every wound caused by rejection.

My God, My God, Why Have You Forsaken Me?

7, The Last Sayings of Christ, Part 04

Matthew 27:46 – About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?”–which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Isaiah 53:3 – He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we esteemed Him not…

Natural Responses to Rejection

  •   There’s something wrong with me.
  •   I’ll reject you before you reject me.
  •   It’s God’s fault.What Jesus Did to Rejection
  •   Jesus became rejection for us.Matthew 27:46 — About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?”—which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Egkataleipō – [en-kä-tä-lā’-pō] – abandon, desert in a helpless state

Romans 8:38-39 – For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

 Jesus has healed every wound caused by rejection.

Isaiah 53:5a — But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him and by His wounds we are healed.

Psalm 34:18 – The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

A Supernatural Response to Rejection

 Don’t reject people; reject the need for their approval.

1 Thessalonians 2:4, 6 – …We are not trying to please men but God…We were not looking for praise from men, not from you or anyone else.

 Fix your eyes on Jesus.
Hebrews 12:2 – Let us fix our eyes on Jesus…

Deuteronomy 31:8 – The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
