Speaker: Pastor Joshua Terry
From the “Youth Sunday” series. Sermon 1 of 1

Step #1 — A: ADMIT

Four Levels of Our Helplessness Without Christ:

1. We are dependent on God for creation.

John 1:3 – Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

2. We are dependent on God for continued existence.

Colossians 1:17 – He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Acts 17:25 – He himself [God] gives everyone life and breath and everything else.

3. We are dependent on God for morality.

John 15:5 – “…apart from me you can do nothing.”

4. We are dependent on God to know Jesus for salvation.

1 Corinthians 2:14 – The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

John 15:5 – “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Step #2 — P: PRAY

Psalm 50:15 – call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.

2 Corinthians 12:9 – But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Step #3 — T: TRUST

Isaiah 41:10 (ESV) – fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Romans 8:32 – He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all–how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

Matthew 28:18, 20 – “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. … 20 And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Philippians 4:19 – And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Step #4 — A: ACT

Philippians 2:12-13 – continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

Step #5 — T: THANK

1 Peter 4:11 – If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
