Matthew 10:35-36 ESV For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household.

Luke 12:51-53 ESV Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. 52 For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

Isaiah 9:6-7 ESV For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.

Luke 2:14 ESV “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

Matthew 5:9 ESV – “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Ephesians 6:15 ESV and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.

John 7:5 ESV For not even his brothers believed in him.

Mark 3:20-21 ESV – Then he went home, and the crowd gathered again, so that they could not even eat. 21 And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.”

When Jesus Brings Division To Your World…

  1. Be gracious, not arrogant.

Colossians 4:5-6 ESV Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. 6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

Proverbs 16:24 ESV Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.

1 Peter 3:1 ESV Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives

  1. Be charitable, not judgmental.

Romans 2:4 ESV Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?

1 Corinthians 5:12-13 ESV For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? 13 God judges those outside.

  1. Be hopeful, not pessimistic.

Philippians 4:4 ESV Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.

Romans 15:13 ESV May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Ephesians 2:10 ESV For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
