The Legacy of the Moabites

Genesis 19:31-32, 36-37 ESV – And the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come in to us after the manner of all the earth. 32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve offspring from our father.” … 36 Thus both the daughters of Lot became pregnant by their father. 37 The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab. He is the father of the Moabites to this day.

Moab – “Seed of the father

  • The motivation is fear. The strategy is sexual immorality.
  • The fear, loneliness and pain that you struggle with today may shape the legacy you leave tomorrow.

Exodus 20:5-6 ESV…I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Numbers 22:3, 5-6 ESVAnd Moab was in great dread of the people, because they were many. Moab was overcome with fear of the people of Israel. … 5 [They] sent messengers to Balaam … 6 Come now, curse this people for me, since they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I shall be able to defeat them and drive them from the land…”

Numbers 25:1-3 ESVWhile Israel lived in Shittim, the people began to whore with the daughters of Moab. 2 These invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods. 3 So Israel yoked himself to Baal of Peor. And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.

Revelation 2:14 ESV…Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, so that they might eat food sacrificed to idols and practice sexual immorality.

  • Parents unintentionally train their children to repeat their issues.
  • When you do not train intentionally, your unintentional consequences will increase.

2 Timothy 1:5I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.
